Sarah Eechaut (°1983), photographer and graphic designer, lives and works in Ghent, Belgium.
After successfully finishing her studies in typography & research at St. Lucas Hogeschool Voor Wetenschap & Kunst, Ghent, she did a two-month internship at BaseDesign New York. There she realized that she paid equal attention to photographic and typographic aspects in the layout of her assignments. She worked as a graphic designer for a year and started at the same time to freelance as a photographer.
She began photography studies and in May 2009, she became an independent photographer. At the end of June 2010 she graduated with great distinction at the St.-Lucas Photography course. December 2010, she completed a series of 200 portraits of working men portraits, a collaboration with the Walloon Forem and Air in Brussels.
She makes a bimonthly photo contribution for The Word Magazine, collaborates with Théatre de Namur and studios such as SOKI, Please Let Me Design, Boondoggle, Pjotr, Canjotto, Face To Face Design, Duval Guillaume, 9000 studios, Who killed Joe?, Publicis and continues her personal series ‘Encounters’. These ‘rencontres’ might seem accidental but are the result of studies in composition and pose. She focuses on the moment when ‘the pose’ drops, both in portrait as in landscape.
